Snow scene

Snow has arrived and for many it has caused no end of problems with travel and work.

However at Epping Forest Burial Park this is our favourite time of the year!

Many of the staff had an interesting journey into work this morning, but the beauty of the Park made it worthwhile ... once everyone was finally there!

Check out this beautiful photo that was taken at Epping Forest Burial Park today.

Worth a read

We came across this today - well worth a visit to read these personal reminiscences about some of our best known people who have died. http://www.guardian.co.uk/theobserver/series/new-review-obituaries-of-2010

Charity fund-raising

Epping Forest Burial Park would like to say a huge thank you to all our families and their friends for helping us raise a massive sum of money for St Clare Hospice.

We held our annual Christmas Service of Remembrance on Sunday 5th December, almost 300 people attended. The Churchfields Choir complimented the service; a group of very talented young girls who performed a couple of songs, and helped lead the carols (which is always a bonus!)

This year we charged for tickets, and welcomed donations for the mulled wine and mince pies on offer. All the money raised was match-funded on behalf of St Clare Hospice.

The total raised was a staggering £3,157.76! Many thanks to all of you who made this possible and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

We don't make them like this!!

For anyone who works in a cemetery office, one of the most critical 'behind the scenes' tasks to get right is obtaining the correct size of the coffin in order to prepare the grave.

At Woodland Burial Parks, I think I can speak on behalf of all our park managers when I say that I hope our next woodland cemetery isn't located in Ghana..... see why here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-11879532

Snow ... and trees

The cold spell that caused the country to grind to a halt last week has kept the WBP bloggers away from their keyboards - we have been too busy shovelling snow and defrosting equipment in an effort to keep the parks open for ceremonies and visitors to share our thoughts on anything!

This week we are somewhat thawed, and hopefully back at the desk for a bit - we came across an interesting article on the BBC today about the benefits of trees - see what you think: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11889768
